Summary: Predatory coccinelids were surveyed in citric plants fortnightly at orchards in Viamão for 4 months (from August to November, 1998) and in Porto Alegre for 5 months (from December, 1998 to April, 1999), Rio Grande do Sul state. The research was conducted at private properties where insecticides were not used in the orchards. Baiting trays were used randomly to catch the specimens. Thirteen species of 13 genera totaling 276 specimens were collected, with the predominance of lady beetles Coccidophilus citricola Bréthes, 1905, which feed preferentially on scale insects of the family Diaspididae.

Visando ao levantamento de coccinelídeos predadores de cochonilhas em plantas cítricas, foram efetuadas amostragens quinzenais em pomares de Viamão, durante 4 meses (de agosto a novembro de 1998), e em Porto Alegre, durante 5 meses (de dezembro de 1998 a abril de 1999), no Rio Grande do Sul. O estudo foi conduzido em propriedades particulares, onde não havia uso de produtos químicos para manutenção dos pomares. Utilizou-se o guarda-chuva japonês, de modo aleatório, para a obtenção dos espécimens. Resultaram 13 espécies, distribuídas em 13 gêneros, totalizando 276 indivíduos, com predominância da joaninha Coccidophilus citricola Brèthes, 1905, que se alimenta preferencialmente de cochonilhas da família Diaspididae.
