ZONING OF CLIMATIC RISKS FOR WHEAT IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL, SOUTHERN BRAZIL

Resumo: | The climatic variability is a risk factor to agricultural activities. In Southem Brazil the main climatic risks forwheat production are frost at anthesis and excess rainfall at harvest time. This study of climatic risks zoning integratestechniques of crop modeling and simulation with geoprocessing tools in order to indicate the areas with lower risks for wheatcrop in Rio Grande do Sul, for each sowing period. The analysis of the risk maps shows that there is variability of climatic risksfor wheat growing in the State, according to the region and sowing period. The combination risk of frost at anthesis with riskof excess rainfall at harvest was used to define, for each County, the wheat sowing period of minimum risk, where the risk oflosses, due to the climatic factors studied, remained bellow the high risk range in 80% of the years. |

No sul do Brasil destacam-se, comoprincipais riscos climáticos à cultura de trigo, as geadas no período da antese e os excessos de chuva no momento da colheita.Com base nisto, este estudo de zoneamento de riscos climáticos envolveu a integração de técnicas de modelagem e simulaçãode culturas, e ferramentas de geoprocessamento para indicar as áreas com menores chances de riscos à cultura de trigo no RioGrande do Sul, conforme a época de semeadura. Assim, pela análise das cartas de riscos, constatou-se que há variabilidade, emtermos de níveis de riscos climáticos à triticultura gaúcha, dependendo da região do Estado e da época de semeadura. Atravésdo cruzamento das cartas de riscos de geada, na floração, e de excesso de chuva, no momento de colheita, foi possível definir,para cada local do Estado, períodos para a semeadura de trigo em que os níveis de riscos, em 80% dos anos, ficassem abaixo dasituação de alto risco e fossem minimizados.Departamento de Diagnóstico e Pesquisa Agropecuária.
