YIELD COMPOSITION IN ARGENTINIAN WHEAT GENOTYPES

Resumo: | Wheat grain yield is a result of the number of spikes per unit ama, number of kemeLs per spike, and kemel weight. The degree of dependance of genotypes on each grain yield component is variable and usually there is compensation among them when quantifying the grain yield. A study was conducted to determine the relative importance of each yield component of some short cycle Argentinian wheat genotypes: cv. 'Federal', 'LAJ 3239', 'LM 3254', 'LAP 2350' and 'T4I This study was conducted at Pergamino, Bs.As., Argentina (33°53'S, 60°34'W, and altitude 68 m) from July to December 1992. Diffcrences in the relative importance of each wheat yield component and yield component compensation were observed among the genotypes. In general, the yield of genotypes is quantificd as follows: 'Federal' is based on tillering efficiency; 'LAJ 3239' is based on spiké fertility; ILAI 3254' is based on the number of tillers per plant and grain weight; 'LAP 2350' is based on the number of tillers per plant, spike fertility, and grain weight; and 741' is based on the number of tillers per plant and tillering efficiency. |

O rendimento de grãos em trigo é dado pelo produto entre o número de espigas por unidade de superfície, o número de grãos por espiga e a massa individual de grão. Para a composição de rendimento os genótipos utilizam estratégias diferenciadas, que envolvem mecanismos compensatórios entre os componentes de rendimento. Diante do exposto, o presente trabalho visou determinar as estratégias de composição de rendimento em alguns genótipos de trigo argentino: cv. 'Federal', 'LAI 3239', 'LAJ 3254', 'LAP 2350' e 741'. O experimento foi conduzido em Pergamino, Bs. As., República Argentina (33°53'S, 60°34'W e altitude de 68 m), durante o período de julho a dezembro de 1992. Constatou-se que essPc genótipos baseiam seu rendimento em diferentes estratégias e que há compensações entre os componentes numéricos de rendimento. Dc modo geral, 'Federal' baseia seu rendimento na eficiência de afilhamento; 'LAJ 3239', no índice de fertilidade da espiga; 'LAJ 3254', no número de afilhas por planta e na massa de grão; 'LAP 2350', no número de afilhas por planta, no índice de fertilidade da espiga e na massa de grão; e 'T41', no número de afilhas por planta e na eficiência do aftlhamento.
