Resumo: | Xylosma ciliatifolia (Clos) Eichler is a wood species, is a native wood species from Brazil. This study aimed to identify seed viability and seed longevity under storage in two environments. Seeds from fresh fruits were collec- ted and subjected to water content determination, germination tests in different thermal regimes and substrates, and emergency in greenhouse conditions. Samples stored in cold chamber (5±2 °C and 80 % RH air) and dry chamber (17±2 °C and 45 % RH air) were subjected to periodic viability tests in germination chamber and evaluated concerning emergency in greenhouse. Initially, the germination in controlled environment and the emergence in greenhouse were among close to 95 % and 80 %, with average times of six and 12 days, respectively. Seeds of X. ciliatifolia presented high viability and storage in dry chamber allowed the conservation of viability for longer. |

Xylosma ciliatifolia (Clos) Eichler é uma espécie arbórea nativa no Brasil. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a viabilidade de suas sementes, bem como, verificar a longevidade das mesmas mediante armazena- mento em dois ambientes. Sementes recém coletadas foram submetidas à determinação do teor de água e a testes de germinação em diferentes regimes térmicos e substratos, além de emergência em casa de vegetação. Amostras arma- zenadas em câmara fria (5±2 °C e 80 % de UR do ar) e câmara seca (17±2 °C e 45 % de UR do ar) foram submetidas a testes periódicos de viabilidade em germinadores e emergência em casa de vegetação. Inicialmente, a germinação em ambiente controlado e a emergência em casa de vegetação foram próximas a 95 % e 80 %, com tempos médios de seis e 12 dias respectivamente, e após 560 dias em câmara seca as sementes apresentaram viabilidade acima de 70 %. Sementes de X. ciliatifolia apresentaram alta viabilidade e o ambiente de câmara seca propiciou melhores condições para estender a longevidade. Departamento de Diagnóstico e Pesquisa Agropecuária.
