Several outbreaks of Seneciose in bovine in the Rio Grande do Sul State are caused for the ingestion of plants the genera Senecio, this signifi es economical losts at least R$ 7.735.000,00 annuals. The objective of this research it was to realize a populacional study of S. leptolobus DC. species in a native fi eld of plain coast of Rio Grande do Sul State, and to relate the growth and development with ambient variables to know the plants with proposed future to establish a control program of them. In the experimental area were demarcated 30 parcel with objective of to map the plants of Senecio leptolobus and to collect the data relative to the study. It was taked too individual numbers, emergency, survivor percentage and bloom of the specie in study of plants that completed the cycle. The registers were realized at 30 days interval from September 1998 to February 2001. There were utilized meteorological dada, obtained from Agriclimatological Station of Pelotas and soil humidity. Can concluded that Senecio leptolobus plants emerge in winter; the theirs seeds has a high potential of germination; the emergence occured with the increase in soil umidity; there is high mortality of vegetative stage and high potential of germination of the seeds in the June and July months, few plants got reproductive the phase and bloom occured at the end of spring.
