Resumo: An experiment under no-tillage conditions was carried out in São Gabriel/RS, to evaluate the influence of seeding rate (30, 60 and 90 kg/ha of viable seeds) and velocity (3,2; 5,3; 6,9; and 8,2 km/h) on black oat growth, which was submitted to a intensive cattle grazing. Number of tillers per plant and culms per m2 were affected by seeding rate, but not by seeding velocity. Before grazing, plant and principal culm dry matter such as total dry matter production were bigger for higher seeding velocities. Major total dry matter production was observed for seeding rates of 60 and 90 kg/ha. Higher seeding rates reduced leaf/culm ratio and plant, principal culm and tillers dry matter. After grazing, all variables were not influenced by the treatments, excepting plant dry matter, stature and number of tillers per plant and culms per m2.
