Diurnal cloudiness in Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil: climatology and temporal tendency

Resumo: | The climatology of the meteorological elements, that is, the calculation of average of long state period, variability, extremities and frequency or probability of occurrence, has a great importance and applicability in several activities, mainly in agriculture. The objective of this paper was to study a decadal and monthly climatology of the diurnal cloudiness index (DCI) and annual and season temporal tendency in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. For this, a decadal and monthly sunshine duration data from 17 weather station widely distributed in the State were used for 1960 to 2005 period. The results show that for both decadal and monthly distribution, on average, June, July, August and September had presented the highest of DCI and the months with lowest values were January and December. The west-northwest region of the State presents the lowest DCI and the east-northeast presents the highest. The highest diurnal cloudiness indexes occur during the winter while the lowest values occur during the summer. The index of diurnal cloudiness in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, from 1960-2005, had significant tendency by increment for the year, in the autumn and in the summer. |

A climatologia dos elementos meteorológicos, ou seja, o cálculo de médias de longo prazo, variabilidade, extremos e freqüência ou probabilidade de ocorrência, tem grande importância e aplicabilidade em diversas ativi- dades da sociedade, principalmente na agricultura. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a climatologia do índice de nebulosidade diurna decendial e mensal, e a tendência temporal anual e estacional, do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Para isto foram utilizados dados de insolação (horas de brilho solar) em base decendial e mensal, de 17 estações me- teorológicas do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, no período de 1960-2005. Os resultados mostram que os maiores va- lores do índice de nebulosidade diurna (IND) no Estado, nas análises decendiais e mensais, em média, ocorrem prin- cipalmente nos meses de inverno (junho, julho, agosto e setembro), enquanto que os meses com o menor IND são nos meses de verão (janeiro e dezembro). A região oeste-noroeste do Estado é a que apresenta o menor IND e a re- gião leste-nordeste a que apresenta o maior índice. O índice de nebulosidade diurna no Rio Grande do Sul, no perí- odo de 1960-2005, apresenta tendência significativa de incremento para o ano, no outono e no verão.Departamento de Diagnóstico e Pesquisa Agropecuária.
