Resumo: This work aimed to evaluate the germination of castor bean (Ricinus communis L.) seeds in different substrates and the incidence of seeds microorganisms and its control efficiency, using the fungicide carboxin + thiram. Seven genotypes were used, with and without treatment with product Vitavax ® 200 CS Thiram (250 ml 100 kg-1 see- ds), in addition two types of substrate (paper roll and Plantmax ®) were tested and the occurrence of pathogens in the seeds sample was evaluated using blotter test. The Plantmax substrate allowed higher castor bean seed germination in comparison to rolled paper; the fungicide treatment improved seed germination with low quality; Aspergillus, Penicillium and Fusarium was the genera most frequently found in the seeds of this study; and the seed treatment with carboxin + tiram reduced the incidence of fungi.
