Resumo: Utilization of red rice as forage plants constitute a control method of this weed along with a gain in animal products. An experiment was carried out at Estação Experimental de Terras Baixas/EMBRAPA CLIMA TEMPERADO, Capão do Leão, RS ,I3razil, to evaluate under, hydromorphic soil conditions, forage production, crude protein and "ia sita" digestibility of dry matter of red rice (Oryza saúva L.). In a split plot complete randomized block design, with four replications. The following variables were compared: a) Five seed densities in the soil (50, 150, 250,350 and 450 seeds/m 2); b) Two cutting times (vegetative and flowering) and c) Two red rice biotypes (straw hull and black hull). Higher forage production was obtained with one cutting in the flowering stage. The density of seeds in the soil influenced maximum forage production. Higher crude protein and "ia sita" digestibility was obtained with cuttings in the vegetative stage.

A utilização do arroz vermelho como planta forrageira, constitui uma forma de controle dessa invasora, poden- do ainda gerar ganhos em termos de produto animal. Avaliou-se sob condições de solo hidromórfico na Estação Experi- mental Terras BakaS/EMBRAPA CLIMA Tiimmanoo, Capão do Leão, RS, Brasil, a produção de forragem, teor de proteína bruta e digestibilidade ia situ da massa seca de arroz vermelho (Oryza .saliva L.). Em um delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados com parcelas sub-divididas e quatro repetições compararam-se: a) Cinco densidades de sementes no solo: 50, 150, 250, 350 e 450 sementes/m 2; b) Duas épocas de corte (estádios vegetativo e floração) e c) Dois biótipos de arroz vermelho (casca clara e casca preta). Maior rendimento forrageiro foi obtido com corte único no estádio de floração. A densidade de sementes no solo influenciou o máximo rendimento de forragem. Percentuais mais elevados de proteína bruta e digestibilidade "ia situ" da massa seca foram obtidos com cortes realizados no estádio vegetativo. Departamento de Diagnóstico e Pesquisa Agropecuária.
