Health care for physical and audiovisual disabilities in basic care

Objectives: To know the assistance provided in Primary Care by the health team to people with physical and audiovisual disabilities. Methodology: Descriptive study with qualitative approach, through interviews with 20 primary care professionals. The data, after collected, were transcribed in appropriate software (IRAMUTEQ). Results: From the analysis of the results emerged four categories that were discussed: The reception of primary care to people with disabilities; The focus of care for people with disabilities; Difficulties of professionals in caring for people with disabilities; Care in primary care for people with disabilities: opinion of professionals. Final considerations: It is understood that in the assistance provided to people with disabilities in the scope of primary care, a professional qualification is necessary to better serve this clientele. The workers showed insecurity and lack of aptitude when interacting with the disability situation, especially in the communicative aspect with the deaf population. Although public policies reach people with disabilities, it is still an unknown field for primary care professionals interviewed.
