Resumo: Objective: The objective was to know the perception of the medical professionals and nurses of a public hospital of maternal and child reference about obstetric violence. Method: This is an exploratory descriptive research, of a qualitative nature, with 22 health professionals. The data were collected between August and November of 2017, through a semi-structured interview, and thematic content analysis was performed. Results: Most interviewees understand what constitutes obstetric violence; however, many have shown that they are not aware of the behavior to be taken before the cases, recognizing themselves as potential aggressors in the face of the various situations of overload and stress in their daily work. Conclusion: Thus, it is important to introduce the topic of obstetric violence in the current discussions, through a multidisciplinary approach, encouraging research and production on the problem in question, in order to raise awareness and turn attention to this problem in all periods of childbirth.
