Resumo: | The objective was to analyze the epidemiological aspects and factors associated with the use of psychoactive drugs by institutionalized elderly. Descriptive study of observational, transversal and retrospective character. It is noteworthy that 51.6% of the respondents were female and 48.33% male, with a mean of 78.28 years of age; consume 4.38 drugs on average, Class N (n = 85, 70.8%) and Class C (n = 81, 67.5%) of ATC; 70.83% make continuous use of psychotropic drugs; (n = 88, 73,3%), as well as mental and behavioral disorders (n = 69, 57.5%) and the nervous system (n = 58, 48.3%) prevailed, . It is observed that there was a greater proportion of individuals with diagnoses of mental disorders and diseases of the nervous system among those who used psychotropic drugs; there was no significant association between gender and the occurrence of falls, nor between the use of psychotropic drugs and the occurrence of falls. |

Estudo descritivo de caráter observacional, transversal e retrospectivo. Destaca-se que 51,6% dos pesquisados era do gênero feminino e 48,3%, do gênero masculino com uma média de 78,28 anos de idade; consomem 4,38 fármacos em média, da Classe N (n= 85; 70,8%) e Classe C (n= 81; 67,5%) da ATC; 70,83% fazem uso contínuo de psicotrópicos; prevaleceram as classes de doenças do aparelho circulatório (n= 88; 73,3%), bem como os transtornos mentais e comportamentais (n= 69; 57,5%) e do sistema nervoso (n= 58; 48,3%).
