Objective: To identify the knowledge of the Nursing students about palliative care. Methods: This was a qualitative descriptive and exploratory study that was carried out in a Private Educational Institution of Teresina-PI, with 23 academics of the 9th period of Nursing. The data collection was performed through interviews and grouped according to the theme of Minayo, totaling three categories. The research followed the resolution 466/2012 and has been approved under no opinion 1,968.914. Results: The knowledge about palliative care is still somewhat fragmented and empirical, built by the little everyday practice that had. However, this does not prevented them from thinking about the actions that could be palliative and about the importance of the family in care. Conclusion: it is necessary that there be a greater number of projects and actions willing to spread knowledge about this theme, as well as the importance of adding this theme in the curriculum of students in the area of health, in particular the Nursing
