Knowledge of nurses in a teaching hospital about the management of the totally implanted central venous catheter

Resumo: Objective: to know the actions of the nurses in the management of the Central Venous Catheter Fully Implanted in a teaching hospital. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative approach study. The research was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of Walter Cantídio University Hospital, obtaining a favorable opinion. Data collection took place with nurses from a oncohematology unit of a teaching hospital in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará. Twelve nurses agreed to participate in the survey. Results: the analysis of the data allowed to highlight some realities in the handling of the device: only two nurses are specialists in oncology, doubts about the preparation of the skin for puncture of the catheter and the adequate dressing, are configured as weak points. The strong points are: angle of needle insertion and the ideal needle type for catheter puncture. Conclusion: with the results of this research, there may be awareness of the institution to conduct frequent training for nurses in the sector and greater interest of professionals in improving safe actions regarding the puncture of the central venous catheter fully implanted.

Método: Trata-se de um estudo transversal, de caráter descritivo, de abordagem quantitativa. A pesquisa foi submetida ao Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa do Hospital Universitário Walter Cantídio, obtendo parecer favorável. A coleta de dados ocorreu com enfermeiros de uma unidade de internação para pacientes oncohematológicos de um hospital de ensino na cidade de Fortaleza-CE. Aceitaram participar da pesquisa doze enfermeiros. Resultados: A análise dos dados permitiu destacar algumas realidades no manejo do dispositivo: apenas dois enfermeiros são especialistas em oncologia, dúvidas em relação ao preparo da pele para punção do cateter e o curativo adequado, configuram-se como pontos fracos. Como pontos fortes, destaca-se: ângulo de inserção da agulha e o tipo de agulha ideal para a punção do cateter.
