Resumo: Objective: To analyze and reflect on the importance of palliative care training in nursing undergraduate programs and to present the essential competencies that students should acquire in this area. Methods: To achieve this objective, an observational narrative literature review was conducted to analyze the challenges faced in integrating palliative care into the nursing curriculum and to reflect on the fundamental competencies that students should develop. Conclusions: Adequate training in palliative care during nursing undergraduate programs is crucial in preparing healthcare professionals to provide quality end-of-life care. This involves developing competencies that encompass promoting palliative care and delivering appropriate and compassionate care to patients and their families. The mandatory inclusion of palliative care content in the curriculum, along with practical internships, will promote a more comprehensive education and empower nursing students to effectively handle the complexities and challenges of this context.

Métodos: Para alcanzar este objetivo, se realizó una revisión narrativa observacional de la literatura para analizar los desafíos enfrentados en la integración de los cuidados paliativos en el currículo de enfermería y reflexionar sobre las competencias fundamentales que los estudiantes deben desarrollar. Conclusiones: Una formación adecuada en cuidados paliativos durante los programas de pregrado de enfermería es crucial para preparar a los profesionales de la salud para brindar cuidados de calidad al final de la vida. Esto implica desarrollar competencias que abarquen desde la promoción de los cuidados paliativos hasta brindar cuidados adecuados y compasivos a los pacientes y sus familias. La inclusión obligatoria de contenido de cuidados paliativos en el currículo, junto con prácticas clínicas, promoverá una formación más completa y capacitará a los estudiantes de enfermería para enfrentar de manera efectiva las complejidades y desafíos de este contextoObjetivo: Analisar e refletir sobre a importância da formação em cuidados paliativos na graduação em enfermagem e apresentar as competências essenciais que os estudantes devem adquirir nessa área. Métodos: Para alcançar esse objetivo, foi realizada uma revisão da literatura narrativa observacional para analisar os desafios enfrentados na integração dos cuidados paliativos no currículo de enfermagem e refletir sobre as competências fundamentais que os estudantes devem desenvolver. Considerações finais: A formação adequada em cuidados paliativos durante a graduação em enfermagem é crucial para preparar os profissionais de saúde para oferecer cuidados de qualidade no fim da vida. Isso envolve o desenvolvimento de competências que abrangem desde a promoção dos cuidados paliativos até a prestação de cuidados adequados e compassivos aos pacientes e suas famílias.
