Resumo: Objective: to verify the level of association between altered basic human needs and medical diagnoses. Methodology: descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out with 150 children in a pediatric clinic of a teaching hospital in the city of João Pessoa - PB, between January and May 2018. For data collection, it was validated the instrument in terms of content and clinic. After application, the altered basic human needs and the respective medical diagnoses were listed. For data analysis, descriptive statistics were used to calculate the frequency in absolute numbers and percentages. Results: there was a prevalence of diagnosis of pneumonia (14%) and urinary tract infection (14%). The need for oxygenation was the most altered. There was a strong relationship between gastroenterocolitis and the need for perception; palatoplasty and cheiloplasty, with the need for physical integrity. In turn, urinary tract infection with sleep and rest. Enterorrhaphy was associated with changes in elimination and the need for body care. Conclusion: the study considered, from the relationship between the symptomatological condition and the respective altered human need of each child examined, the association of the respective altered domains with the established medical diagnosis.
