Algorithms for wound care: Integrative review

Objectives: To critically synthesize the algorithms found in the literature for wound care. Method: integrative literature review based on the PICO strategy. The literature search was performed in the electronic databases LILACS, MedLine and CINAHL, based on each of the strategy components: algorithm and treatment and wounds and injuries. Results: Nineteen articles were included, with a reliability level of 0.99 in the selection of studies. Highlight of publications to the United States (64.3%). Significant diversity in the themes was observed, with greater expression of pressure injury (21.0%). Most studies evaluated, 42.1% developed algorithms and 36.8% developed and validated the algorithm. Regarding the reliability of the instruments, all studies that performed validation used the “content validation” method. Most studies (73.7%) were classified in Level VII as evidence. Conclusion: The sample size selected was reasonably sufficient to collect information on the topic. However, the high rate of publications with low scientific evidence makes it clear that the subject needs further study.
