Resumo: The objective of the study is to describe the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of hospitalized patients with sepsis, as well as to determine the use of vasoactive drugs, antimicrobials and the main outcomes in these patients. This is a descriptive study, with a quantitative approach, performed with 367 hospitalized patients diagnosed with sepsis from February 2016 to July 2017 in a private hospital in the state of Sergipe, Brazil, which performs outpatient and emergency care. The data were collected from the records of medical records by a single researcher, after approval of the Research Ethics Committee of the institution. Sepsis was responsible for 367 (2.2%) hospitalizations in the study period, the majority of patients were elderly (78.5%), female (50.7%), and had at least three comorbidities (70.3% %) and hospitalized for clinical sepsis (94.5%). The most commonly used class of antibiotics was β-lactam antibiotics (64.6%). The Length of stay and mortality were significantly greater in patients who suffered septic shock than those who did not. The study evidenced that sepsis affected mainly elderly women and that the highest mortality rates and the longest period of stay were observed in patients with worsening sepsis.

In Derme; Vol. 90 No. 28 (2019): Out.
