Leishmaniose visceral e desnutrição: uma via de mão dupla?

Objective: to outline the panorama of the discussion between visceral leishmaniasis and malnutrition. Methods: this is a descriptive, exploratory study, supported by an integrative literature review, carried out at the Virtual Health Library through scientific databases, which are the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System on-line (MEDLINE) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS). The collection resulted in articles published during the period from 2006 to 2017. A total of 89 articles were found, 76 documents in MEDLINE and 13 in LILACS. Of these, only 11 made up the final sample. Results: malnutrition in visceral leishmaniasis seems to have two different genesis, one due to the deficiency in the intake of macro and micronutrients, preceding the infection and favoring the susceptibility of the host due to the impairment of the branches of the immune response and the other through a hypercatabolic and anorexic consuming process. triggered by the systemic inflammatory response to the action of leishmania. Both within a global framework that involves genetic, immunological, hormonal, environmental and parasite elements. Finales considerations: therefore, clinical management of malnutrition through anthropometric and laboratory parameters is essential, regardless of origin.
