Resumo: The study aims to report the experience of nurses regarding the identification of nursing diagnoses in adult patients confirmed with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) by SARS-CoV-2 in the intensive care unit (ICU) in the light of human needs and NANDA I. This is an experience report on the process of identifying nursing diagnoses based on the clinical manifestations of patients with COVID-19 admitted to the ICU of a university hospital in the city of São Luís, Maranhão, northeastern Brazil which occurred from April 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020. The main nursing diagnoses identified were: unbalanced nutrition less than body needs; risk of unbalanced liquid volume; diarrhea and impaired gas exchange. The results contribute to a better understanding of the nurse in the face of adequate care for these patients based on the diagnoses that will subsidize the interventions, providing scientific knowledge for nursing with respect to COVID-19.
