Objective: To analyze the national and international literature on the social representations of pregnancy. Method: This is an integrative review, carried out in the MEDLINE, CINAHL, SciELO, LILACS, BDENF databases. After the analysis and refinement of the search, 10 studies were selected, which made up the analysis corpus of this study and were classified into two main axes: the characterization and synthesis of knowledge about the social representations of pregnancy. Results: The studies showed three thematic categories: motherhood and its meanings, which showed aspects focused on the daily lives of pregnant women; religiosity and motherhood, pointing to religion as an explanation for the events; maternity and nursing care, evidencing a need for guidance and information. Final considerations: Based on the results, it was possible to understand that the social representation of pregnancy is built throughout the particular experience of living, and it is necessary to understand these aspects, in order to promote nursing care based on comprehensive strategies that are consistent with the needs of these women. women.
