PATIENT SAFETY IN DRUG THERAPY FOR ADULTS AND ELDERLY PEOPLE IN HOSPITAL ENVIRONMENT: INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Resumo: Objective: to analyze the scientific literature on patient safety and errors in drug therapy in adults and elderly people hospitalized. Method: integrative literature review, between 2018 and 2023, in six different information resources. Combinations were made with the descriptors “Adult”, “Elderly”, “Medication errors” and “Patient Safety”. Results: 22 articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed. Studies show that the main medication errors are related to the preparation and administration of medications. The main methodologies for promoting patient safety and preventing errors used technologies such as consulting leaflets via QRcode and electronic prescriptions. Conclusion: technologies enable the adoption of effective measures to prevent errors and ensure patient safety, highlighting the responsibility of healthcare professionals in implementing strategies that guarantee safe and effective drug therapy for adult and elderly patients. Método: revisión integrativa de la literatura, entre 2018 y 2023, en seis recursos de información diferentes. Se realizaron combinaciones con los descriptores “Adulto”, “Anciano”, “Errores de medicación” y “Seguridad del paciente”. Resultados: Se analizaron 22 artículos que cumplieron con los criterios de inclusión. Los estudios demuestran que los principales errores de medicación están relacionados con la preparación y administración de medicamentos. Las principales metodologías para promover la seguridad del paciente y prevenir errores utilizaron tecnologías como la consulta de folletos mediante código QR y la receta electrónica. Conclusión: las tecnologías permiten la adopción de medidas efectivas para prevenir errores y garantizar la seguridad del paciente, destacando la responsabilidad de los profesionales de la salud en la implementación de estrategias que garanticen una terapia farmacológica segura y eficaz para los pacientes adultos y ancianos. Método: revisão integrativa da literatura, entre 2018 e 2023, em seis diferentes recursos informacionais. Foram realizadas combinações com os descritores “Adulto”, “Idoso”, “Erros de medicação” e “Segurança do Paciente”. Resultados: foram analisados 22 artigos que atenderam aos critérios de inclusão. Os estudos demonstram que os principais erros de medicação estão relacionados ao preparo e administração de medicamentos. As principais metodologias para promoção da segurança do paciente e prevenção dos erros utilizaram tecnologias como consulta de bulas por QRcode e prescrições eletrônicas. Conclusão: as tecnologias possibilitam a adoção de medidas eficazes para prevenir os erros e garantir a segurança do paciente, destacando a responsabilidade dos profissionais de saúde na implementação de estratégias que garantam uma terapia medicamentosa segura e eficaz para o paciente adulto e idoso.
