Resumo: Objective: to reflect on the actions of nurses in Primary Health Care in coping with COVID-19 in the light of Callista Roy's Theory of Adaptation. Method: reflective theoretical study about the COVID-19 pandemic, in the light of Callista Roy's Adaptation theory. Documents from the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Medline and Database in Nursing databases were used, as well as reference works by the author Callista Roy and her theory, searched between January and February 2023. Results: it is observed that the application of the theoretical foundations proposed in the adaptation theory subsidizes and contributes to the practices of nurses in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Final considerations: studies and reflections based on the adaptation theory enabled us to clearly envision that its association with practice can provide a comprehensive look at the individual's needs involving the person, environment, health and nursing as a way of achieving coping measures. Moreover, it is clear that the understanding of this situation by the nurse and the articulation with the multidisciplinary team can promote the reduction of emerging diseases, as well as stimulate improvement in the biopsychosocial factors of the population's health.
