KNOWLEDGE OF NURSING STUDENTS FROM A PUBLIC UNIVERSITY ABOUT PRESSURE INJURIES

Resumo: Introduction: Pressure injuries, caused by prolonged exposure to pressure on the skin, are associated with various factors and contribute to the client's decreased quality of life. Nurses are among the primary professionals responsible for caring for this type of condition. Objective: To analyze the knowledge of undergraduate nursing students from a state university regarding the prevention, classification, and treatment of pressure injuries. Method: A descriptive-exploratory, analytical, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach was conducted at a public university in northern Minas Gerais. Data collection was carried out through the "Pieper Knowledge Test." The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences, Version 25.0, was used for descriptive and bivariate analyses (Pearson's chi-square test or Fisher's exact test). Results: The study included 77 nursing students, of whom 14.3% demonstrated satisfactory knowledge about pressure injuries. The variables change of position (p=0.00), prevention using gloves (p=0.01), and maintaining moisture in the wound bed (p=0.00) were associated with having or not having knowledge about pressure injuries. Conclusion: A knowledge deficit regarding the prevention, classification, and treatment of pressure injuries was identified among the participants.

El enfermero es uno de los principales profesionales responsables del cuidado de este tipo de agravio. Objetivo: Analizar el conocimiento de los estudiantes del curso de licenciatura en enfermería de una universidad estatal sobre la prevención, clasificación y tratamiento de las lesiones por presión. Método: Estudio descriptivo-exploratorio, analítico y transversal con enfoque cuantitativo desarrollado en una universidad pública del norte de Minas Gerais. La recolección de datos se realizó a través del "cuestionario de conocimiento de Pieper". Se utilizó el paquete estadístico Statistical Package For The Social Sciences, Versión 25.0, en el cual se realizaron análisis descriptivos y bivariados (prueba de chi-cuadrado de Pearson o exacta de Fisher). Resultados: El estudio contó con la participación de 77 estudiantes de enfermería, de los cuales el 14,3% demostró tener conocimiento satisfactorio sobre las lesiones por presión. Las variables cambio de decúbito (p=0,00), prevención con el uso de guantes (p=0,01) y mantenimiento de la humedad en el lecho de la lesión (p=0,00) se asociaron con el tener o no conocimiento sobre las lesiones por presión. Conclusión: Se identificó un deficit de conocimiento en los participantes sobre la prevención, clasificación y tratamiento de las lesiones por presión.Introdução: As lesões por pressão causadas a pele devido exposição prolongada a pressão, estão associadas a diversos fatores e contribuem para a baixa qualidade de vida do cliente. Método: estudo descritivo-exploratório, analítico, transversal com abordagem quantitativa desenvolvido em uma universidade pública do norte de Minas Gerais. A coleta de dados foi feita por meio do “teste de conhecimento de pieper”. Utilizou-se o Statistical Package For The Social Sciences, Versão 25.0, no qual foram conduzidas análises descritivas e bivariadas (teste de qui-quadrado de Pearson ou exato de Fisher). Resultados: O estudo teve a participação de 77 acadêmicos de enfermagem, destes, 14,3% apresentaram conhecimento satisfatório sobre as lesões por pressão. As variáveis mudança de decúbito (p= 0,00), prevenção com o uso de luvas (p=0,01) e manutenção da umidade do leito da lesão (p=0,00) foram associadas a ter ou não conhecimento sobre lesões por pressão.
