Resumo: According to Gilles Deleuze, mid-20th century has opened unprecedented perspectives related to oral tradition and nomadic lifestyle. Following Deleuze’s lead, this article aims to analyze West Africa’s cinema by proposing a path drawn from a number of movies in which the affirmation of an original identity alternates with the movement of an ever changing identity: contradictory forces that express themselves through rooting figures (the Baobab tree) and nomadic figures (the winds of the Sahel).
