Resumo: Discute a relação paradoxal atualmente exacerbada entre os princípios da autonomia da vontade e do intervencionismo estatal na perspectiva da garantia da dignidade e liberdade da pessoa humana. Expõe concepções clássicas, modernas e contemporâneas de liberdade. Adentra os temas do individualismo pós-moderno, da sociedade de hiperconsumo e da sociedade sem sociabilidade. Utiliza autores emblemáticos como Hobbes, Rousseau e Locke, além de pensadores da atualidade como Monteiro Bobbio, Gilles Lipovetsky, Crawford Macpherson e Antonio Castanheira Neves.
