Vernacular architecture through the prism of hospitality: home, community and spirituality

From the perspective of the humanities, the panorama of hospitality studies indicates the incipience of epistemological fundations in the face of an object that is its own: people's homes, especially vernacular houses. Therefore, this article aims to theoretically and empirically investigate the possible, and plural, relationships between vernacular architecture and hospitality, with special focus on the analytical categories of home, community and spirituality.  The methodology relies on bibliographical research on hospitality and vernacular architecture, exploring the intersection of theories and potencial applications while proposing analytical categories. In addition to the theoretical discussion, the field research was conducted in the district of Lapinha da Serra/MG using phenomenological approach and sensory perception of the relations between vernacular architecture and hospitality. The conclusion highlights that vernacular architecture is constituted through relational and procedural aspects of hospitality, with a triad that can be thought from the following intertwined elements: home, community and spirituality.
