Essa negligencia fez com que os métodos de tratamento utilizados fossem empíricos, o que pode levar ao surgimento de cepas resistentes ou multirresistentes, visto as características especificas de cada espécie de Candida sp. que as tornam susceptível ou não a determinado antifúngico. Tal fato trouxe à tona a necessidade de criação de métodos rápidos para o diagnóstico diferencial das espécies de Candida sp., como o CHROMágar, e consequente adequação das medidas terapêuticas. Este trabalho apresenta os métodos convencionais o método cromógeno mais utilizado, e a relação e importância dos mesmos, frente à terapia adequada.Candida sp. is an opportunistic pathogen of medical importance has been overlooked differential diagnosis, given the delay in obtaining results by conventional tests for identification, established by the Ministry of Health and the National Health Surveillance Agency - ANVISA. This neglect has made the treatment methods used were empirical, which can lead to the emergence of multidrug resistant strains or because the specific characteristics of each species of Candida sp. which render them susceptible to a particular antifungal or not. This fact has brought about the need for creation of rapid methods for the differential diagnosis of species of Candida sp., As CHROMagar and consequent adequacy of therapeutic measures.
