Resumo: | The A. analyzes the rate and range of occurence of « at risk » situations on deviance. Two sample groups composed of adolescent Brazilian boys, ages 14-18, were studied. The first group was composed of poor young workers connected to a cooperative of youth workers, the majority of whom lived in the « favelas ». The second sample was composed of middle and upper class students attending private catholic schools. The working hypothesis was that the frustration of the individual's needs generate a chronic sense of unrest which can contribute to deviant behavior. « At risk » situatons were identified in various areas such as material needs, post-material needs, family, school, work and leisure time. Path analysis was used to measure the correlations between the different « at risk » situations. The risks connected with poverty and deviance are the main point of the analysis. It was found that poverty did not influene deviance, but was a factor in the increase of failure both in the workplace and in school while contributing to a decrease in risk in the area of leisure time. These results show that deviance is correlated with family conflict, evasive leisure time activities and failure at work. |

The A. analyzes the rate and range of occurence of « at risk » situations on deviance. |
