Esse método, quando não utilizado de maneira adequada pode ser responsável pelo surgimento de vários problemas em nosso organismo, sendo um deles a insuficiência renal aguda. Os efeitos nocivos da ventilação mecânica podem tornar-se mais significativos quando uma co-morbidade está presente. Objetivo: Fazer uma revisão da literatura atual, buscando entender como funciona a relação entre a ventilação mecânica no surgimento ou agravamento da insuficiencia renal aguda. Métodos: uma pesquisa de dados na fonte Medline e PubMed, e referências que auxiliam na identificação de artigos que foram utilizados para realizar uma pesquisa bibliográfica relativa à ventilação mecânica e insuficiência renal aguda. Os artigos foram selecionados a partir das palavras chaves: ventilação mecânica, insuficiencia renal, ventilação protetora. Resultados: foram selecionados 21 artigos, sendo todos incluídos. Conclusões: Concluímos que o desenvolvimento da insuficiência renal aguda durante o processo de ventilação mecânica, representa forte ligação a um processo multifatorial que pode se agravar na presença de comorbidades.Introduction: We know that mechanical ventilation has an increasingly important role in maintaining the life of a critically ill patient in an intensive care unit. This method, if not used properly can be responsible for the emergence of various problems in our body, one of which is acute renal failure. The harmful effects of mechanical ventilation may become more significant when one co-morbidity is present. Objective: To review the current literature, seeking to understand how the relationship between mechanical ventilation in the onset or worsening of acute renal failure. Methods: A survey of data source in Medline and PubMed, and references that help identify items that were used to conduct a literature search on mechanical ventilation and acute renal failure. The articles were selected from the key words: mechanical ventilation, renal failure, protective ventilation. Results: We have selected 21 articles, all included.
