Resumo: | The prevalence of obesity is increasing worldwide and represents a significant challenge for global public health. Furthermore, obese individuals have a higher prevalence for the diagnosis of chronic non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, cancer, psychological disorders (depression), inflammation, and chronic kidney disease. Therefore, evaluating new techniques that present beneficial results in treating chronic non-communicable diseases is of fundamental importance for this population. This is a pilot study of a randomized, controlled, and double-blind experimental nature. Ten participants were recruited for the present study as obese, with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 30kg/m2, sedentary, aged between 30 and 50 years. Project participants were randomly divided into two groups. The first was the control group (placebo + physical exercise, four women and one man), and the second (4 women and one man) received standard modified intravascular laser blood irradiation (ILIB) therapy and did physical exercises. Handgrip strength and biochemical parameters were assessed the first week before and four weeks after the intervention. After the intervention, no differences between the control and experimental groups were verified for all variables analyzed (p ≥ 0.05). Therefore, regardless of the application or non-application of ILIB using the specifications in the present study prior to the practice of RT, similar results on muscle strength and biochemical parameters in obese people with comorbidities were verified. |
