Resumo: The present work aims to analyze the aspects that influence on the identity composition of participants in social networks on the Internet, as well as the modus of combining text and images that shape the users profile and their interactions in these environments. This process was named Identity Negotiation, and, for the implementation of the research, Facebook was selected as the empirical basis due to its interactive dimension and internationalizing perspective. The identity aspects have been considered relevant in debates about social networks, especially because the modern identity reading references are usually directed towards this face recognition. The already known face-to-face interaction, because of this type of consideration, supposedly offers more security to the knowledge of individuals. However, the increase in interactions through social networks puts the prospect in question. A plural approach was Alpha used, founded on the precepts of Qualitative Research. As resources for data collection procedures, the prerogative of participant observer was taken into consideration, a blog open to discussion of the issue was created, a study of the profiles and interactions in the referred website was carried out and ten semi-structured interviews with young users in Bras??lia and its surrounding areas were carried through. The investigated were: the types of use, motivations, purpose of profile fulfilling and text and photos posts. The analytical categories consisted of: aspects involved in the composition of identity, relationship between intimacy and privacy, the so-called correlation between the so-called real and virtual worlds, meanings attributed by users to their choices circumscribed in subjectivities. The analytical and interpretive basic accomplished was based on the assumptions of Social Psychology that inform the processes of identity construction in dialogue with the Sociocultural Anthropology, specifically to the Theory of Practice and the Sociology of Emotions. Data analysis showed that the complex, continuous and dynamic mode of selecting the elements of identity of survey participants show a greater approach with a negotiation process than the identity construction. This phenomenon occurs because the notion of construction conveys an idea that once completed this construction; the process would already be finished. The predominant aspects that highlighted the identity composition of these participants are the motivations, goals and interests in which people use social networks, the fear of public exposure with their implications in terms of concerns about professional life, as well as the fear of violence that affects urban life. Were particularly evidenced by participants the significance and meanings of the fear of exposure (emotional, vocational, personal) and the fear of violence as conditioning factors of identity elements selected in this Negotiation Process.
