Resumo: | The purpose of this thesis was to identify the role of the Brazilian School Games in the formation of High-performance Sports. This research is composed of four independent case studies, that bring different looks, but oriented towards the same object: the Brazilian School Games. The first study aimed to investigate the history of the Brazilian School Games. This study applied a documentary analysis of game newsletters between the years 1969 and 2010, found in the Ministry of Sport and the Brazilian Olympic Committee. The second study aimed to investigate about the perception of 8 sports managers, among wich there was a minister of Sport, three national secretaries of Sport and four general coordinators of the Brazilian School Games. The method used semi-structured interviews. The third study aimed to evaluate the technical level of the Brazilian School Games between 2005 and 2010. The sample consisted of male and female medal athletes in the swimming, chess, table tennis, basketball, handball and judo classes, under the age range of 12 to 14 years old. Selection criteria created based on information provided by the coordinators and technicians of sports modalities, enabled the calibration of the technical level of this sample. The fourth study aimed to identify if athletes participating in the Brazilian School Games between 1969 and 2014 achieved the Olympics games. The method used was an exploratory and descriptive research, which involved a documental and bibliographical survey. The sample consisted of 433 men and women athletes in athletics, swimming, judo and rhythmic gymnastics, who participated in the Olympics between 1972 and 2016. The results indicate that the history of the Brazilian School Games can be subdivided into four phases and it is possible to find a relationship between the sporting and political events of the country. The technical level of school games in the period between 2005 and 2010 corresponded to 46.3% and increased from the first to the last edition. It was observed that the best female athletes participated more in school games. The participants of the Brazilian School Games made it to the Olympics with a frequency of 43.4% in the athletics, swimming, judo and rhythmic gymnastics. It was observed that the female athletes made it to the Olympic Games in a greater percentage than the male athletes. We may affirm that, along with the intention of recruiting sport talents, as manifested in bulletins and in the perspective of sports managers, a good technical level was observed in the school games between 2005 and 2010, together with a significant amount of school athletes that arrived at the Olympics. Thus, this indicates a significant contribution of the Brazilian School Games to the training of athletes in the country. |

No. of bitstreams: 1 AndreAlmeidaCunhaArantesTese2019.pdf: 1317377 bytes, checksum: 8e340339a39982f3240eafa56443a8ea (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Sara Ribeiro (sara.ribeiro@ucb.br) on 2019-06-05T19:13:32Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 1 AndreAlmeidaCunhaArantesTese2019.pdf: 1317377 bytes, checksum: 8e340339a39982f3240eafa56443a8ea (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2019-06-05T19:13:33Z (GMT).
