Resumo: This research aims to evaluate the frequency of dermatitis and its symptoms and review the effectiveness of educational intervention with health workers in prevention and treatment of diaper dermatitis of through the development of a book proposing measures to health professionals working in a establishment of Long Stay (ELS). This is a qualitative prospective longitudinal study conducted in a ILP of DF. Included in the study were all health workers, and 8 in nursing technicians and 14 caregivers of elderly, who were previously trained to carry out the measures proposed in the book with all the elderly who used diapers, regardless of gender and level of functionality. Thus, 38 elderly, 20 women and 18 men, underwent the process of intervention for 3 weeks. Was used for statistical analysis software to Microsoft Office Excel (2007) with analysis of the percentage for determining the frequency of dermatitis and related symptoms in the population studied. We found that all 38 seniors evaluated (100%) showed some degree of dermatitis are older than 6 (15.79%) had dermatitis in the mild and 32 (84.21%) in moderate degree. The most frequent symptoms were: urinary incontinence (100%), hyperemia (81.57%), edema (42.61%) and desquamation (39%). The elderly who had a diaper dermatitis of only 7 persisted with the dermatitis in mild, and 2 older wing of B - not restricted to the bed, and 5 elderly male wing of the C - restricted to bed and 31 had symptoms of the healing dermatitis, representing 81.58%. There was also a decrease in symptoms, in which the scaling showed 93.33% of improvement, the hyperemia 77.41% and 93.75% edema. It can be seen in this study that the incidence of dermatitis in elderly users of diapers who reside in ILP is 100% and the highest prevalence of symptoms were urinary incontinence, the hyperemia, the swelling and discoloration. The measures proposed in the book were appropriate and effective for elderly people who have dermatitis in mild.
