The day-to-day approach to socio-assistance dedicated to caregivers of elderly people diagnosed with Alzheimer raised the need and importance of reflecting on the interfaces and influence of the gender and generation categories and how they permeate social relations, family members, professionals and affective of the caregivers. Studying this theme consisted of considering the responsibility of the caregiver as an expression of a growing social phenomenon, given the exponential number of elderly people who need a permanent caregiver. The data collection site was an entity that provides basic social protection assistance to elderly people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. The research followed reflections on what it means to be a caregiver within this context. I used the qualitative investigative method, where there is an interpretation of the meanings attributed by the subjects about their actions in a socially constructed reality, from the oral history in a focus group formed by six caregivers. The data set that composes the analyzes are the narratives extracted from home visits, reports from the research subjects in meetings of the social group that the caregivers participate in, and also the instrumental of the social service filed in the documentation of the entity. The analysis of the life report and the socioeconomic profile of each participant brought evidence about the relevance of the gender and generation categories in studies that seek to understand the reality, difficulties and social invisibility of caregivers in the scope of community development and interdisciplinary.
