The Discourse Analysis is an area of research that has as object the social production of meaning, thus becoming the area propitious to study of memory, the historicity of narratives produced and identity processes of subjects. The Paraguayan War, textualized in literary work Time and the Wind, written by Erico Verissimo is understood in this paper as a discursive event, in other words, we do not disregard the historicity, the conditions of real proposed by History, but we conceive as possibility of study discourses produced from a such an event, in discourse, therefore, with senses and effects of other meanings, resonating the memory. Thus, this dissertation works in language/literature interface, in the plurality and incompleteness of language, while human production. Thus, the subject-characters created by the author, in his discourse, guarantee spaces for understanding of ways of saying and notsaying, of meaning and memory in relation language/subject/history. These possibilities occur from of effects produced around the words hero and city, in the composition of the subject-character Florencio Terra in urban areas of Santa Fe (RS), main focus of chapter V of the Continent, Volume II. Thus, our research question is how the historical event, the Paraguayan War, is reframed in the discourse of the subjects-characters, through two significant - the city and hero - shifting the national event for the regional event? Our interest for this issue derived of subject-author Erico Verissimo that narrates in the trilogy that compose Time and the Wind over two hundred years in the history of Rio Grande do Sul; then is crossed by ideology materialized in language, support for his fictional narrative. Thus, the discourse around the object of research, memories and discourses are crossed, affiliated in other discourses and sayings, other spaces and subjects. The possibility of analysis will be possible from the French line AD, based on the precepts of Pêcheux and Orlandi, highlighting the relationship between subject, language and history, heading for the analysis as the war domain is reinterpreted and updated by memory and so opens space for movement of the senses put in the work of Verissimo, with regard to the imaginary around the Paraguayan War conflict. These paths lead us to the understanding that in the analyzed work, the location (fictional town of Santa Fe), regional (Rio Grande do Sul) and national (Brazil), have no fixed limits, but that the memory movement and the production of speeches, mingle, complement and fulfill, enabling upgrading your memory.
