This study focuses on investigating everyday life, sociabilities and identity constructions in the far east of the city of Orlândia, located in the northeast region of the State of São Paulo, between the decades of 1980-2010. In this investigation, we concentrated our analysis on the subjects that make up the region, which corresponds to the Jardim Santa Rita and José Vieira Brasão Housing Complex, paying attention to Northeastern migrants and local residents who inhabit this space. The research was built, above all, from oral testimonies of the residents who narrate their trajectories, daily life, difficulties, and also highlight the networks of friendship, solidarity and intrigues developed in this region. This dissertation is divided into three chapters, the first being an analysis of the phenomenon of northeastern migration to the city of Orlândia, highlighting the motivations, the solidarity networks formed by the subjects, the difficulties encountered in the city, the strangeness with space, employment activities and places of residence. The second chapter corresponds to an investigation into the far east of Orlândia, paying attention to its occupation, the problems faced by residents, regarding the lack of infrastructure and services, as well as the development of a stigma on the space and its residents and the forms of counter-stigmatization practiced by the people who live there. Finally, the third chapter focuses on an analysis of the contributions of everyday life and sociability in the formation and construction of certain local identities. In this chapter, we emphasize that the identity formations in the region took place through networks of friendship, solidarity and companionship, such identities were also constructed as forms of differentiation between subjects. Our investigation, which corresponds to a local study, demonstrates, through the bibliography used for its preparation, that the issues found in the respective city can be observed in more general frames, that is, throughout the dissertation, we seek to highlight that the analysis performed, in this investigation, can also be observed in different Brazilian cities, whether small, medium or large, involving different social groups.
