Comparação anatômica das vias aéreas craniais de animais braquicefálicos e mesaticefálico por meio de tomografia computadorizada e ressonância magnética

Dogs show wide variation in conformation due to the genetic selection realized by men over the years. Due to this great racial variety, brachycephalic dogs have a shorter skull length, but the soft tissues of the nasal cavity are not reduced in the same proportion causing deformation of the same, anatomical changes that cause airway obstruction, which lead to brachycephalic syndrome. Changes are known to occur, such as: prolongation of the palate, narrowed nostrils, however, comparative descriptions of the cranial respiratory tract of brachycephalic breeds and dogs with normal skull length are scarce. This present study compared the computed tomography, magnetic resonance and anatomical images of a mesaticephalic animal (control) and two brachycephalic animals. Thus, this study is justified by seeking to discriminate comparatively and specifically the anatomical structures involved in the syndrome, facilitating the interpretation when analyzing sick patients. Even tough the difficulty of association of the sections of comparisons between the mesaticephalic and brachycephalic animals because of the shortening of the skull of these animals, we can conclude the reasons and the origin of all clinical signs of the brachycephalic syndrome, and turn this work into an elucidative model for teaching veterinarians, working as a guide in the presence of injuries, explaining clinical symptoms and establishing a medical and surgical therapeutic protocol.
