The area of reconstructive surgery has been expanding in veterinary medicine with the aim of providing more appropriate techniques for wound occlusion, the total mesh graft is the most used method. However, the assessment of graft viability is not yet well established in the literature, leaving gaps in the assessment of the graft. This work aims to propose a method for analysing the success and failure of grafting. Eight dogs with neoplasia in the thoracic or pelvic limb were selected, in which the skin grafting technique was used in the defect created after the surgical procedure. The analysis method consisted of evaluating edema, colour, secretion and union of graft edges, with each parameter being assigned a number from 1 to 3. The evaluation occurred every 72 hours during the bandage change. It was possible to observe that after changing the fourth bandage, 8 to 9 days postoperatively, the parameters changed little. Patients with an average of less than 1.5 had successful grafting and greater than 1.5 had graft devitalization. In this way, a standard was achieved according to graft viability. It can also be observed that aggressive, immunosuppressed patients and the guardian's non-cooperation negatively influenced the success of the technique, and may also require a prior assessment to perform the technique.
