Resumo: The objective in this article is to characterize labor informality in the labor market of Piauí in 2019, with emphasis on the analysis of the interrelationships between access to professional education and formalization. Methodologically, this research is qualitative and quantitative with exploratory purposes, based on specialized bibliography and statistical data analysis. It is concluded that informality in the labor market of Piauí has a much higher number than the national average (59.2%), assuming specific characteristics according to the chosen variables – reaching certain groups more forcefully: i) by position, the self-employed (90.1%) and the domestic worker (88.3%); ii) by age, people aged 45 or over (36.9%); iii) by sex, men (57.1%). It is also concluded that, with the exception of domestic workers (11.3% formally, against 17.4% informally), attending professional education courses beforehand provides better conditions for entering the formal labor market in Piauí (18.7% in the formal market, while in the informal market 11.5%)
