Frantz Fanon, mental health and anti-asylum praxis

Resumo: This article aims to discuss Frantz Fanon's anti-asylum theory and practice, extracting subsidies to the Brazilian Anti-asylum Struggle (LA) and Psychiatric Reform (RP). We analyzed his psychiatric writings, other productions that reflect on psychiatry and mental alienation, along with secondary sources on his life and work. We found three pillars of his praxis: sociogenesis of mental health and madness as a freedom pathology; the need to overcome the asylum; and the critique of psychiatry as an arm of the colonial system. An LA and RP that are nourished by the Fanonian praxis and contribute to the germination of new human beings and society, implying in disalienated and disalienating relationships, must be radical: anti-racist, anti-patriarchal, anti-capitalist and, in a capitalism managed in/by colonization, anti-colonial, based on the needs of our wretched of the earth, the asphalt, basements and slave quarters (senzalas).

Analisamos seus escritos psiquiátricos, demais produções que abarcam reflexões sobre a psiquiatria, saúde mental e loucura, junto de fontes secundárias sobre sua vida e obra como complementação e aprofundamento. Constatamos três pilares de sua práxis: a sociogênese da saúde mental e a loucura como patologia da liberdade; a necessidade de superação do manicômio; e a crítica à psiquiatria como braço do sistema colonial.
