Resumo: | This article is established based on the educational scenario of the 19th century in which the first Educational Law in Brazil was enacted, whose intention was to promote changes in the structuring of teaching. Initially, we address the philosophical perspectives inherent to the educational system of the time. Then, through an analysis of the Escola Normal da Corte, we establish a parallel between educational approaches aimed at boys and girls, highlighting the transition to mixed classes and the adoption of gender co-education. Additionally, we explore the role of Mathematics in this historical context, as well as the influence of positivist philosophy, which permeated both this discipline and primary education, contributing to the perpetuation of barriers to female education. Finally, we focus on the educational changes and the new school movement that marked the 20th century, outlining the advances and challenges faced in the Brazilian educational panorama. |
