A science center dialogues with the community

Resumo: The Environmental Training and Research Center of the University of São Paulo(Cepema-USP), is not only a research center applied to environmental issues but also offers a place to communicate and exchange ideas with the local community, collaborating, participating and developing activities of non formal science and technology education and environmental education . This work pretends to show briefly educational non formal projects developed and done in the Cepema and present a study case: the participation during the Environmental Week held in Cubatão in 2011,city where  the center is inserted. This specific action of scientific dissemination involved the creation and installation of a mini-stand showing the different researches done, training of monitors for this exposition and assessment using a perception survey with monitors and visitants, understood as a way of contributing towards a reflection around the actions developed by the center and to guide actual and future activities. The analysis of this concrete non formal education experience reinforces positively the need of an approximation and dialogue with the local community.

Este trabalho apresenta brevemente os projetos de educação não formal desenvolvidos pelo centro, e focaliza em uma das ações realizadas: a participação na Semana de Meio Ambiente de Cubatão de 2011, cidade onde o centro encontra-se inserido. Esta ação específica de divulgação científica envolveu a criação e montagem de uma mini-exposição sobre as pesquisas desenvolvidas, a formação de monitores para a exposição e a avaliação, compreendida como uma forma de contribuir para reflexão das ações desenvolvidas pelo centro e para o norteamento de suas atividades atuais e futuras.
