Resumo: Importance and richness of primeval knowledge is not, usually, validated by science. And perhaps for this reason, it is often undervalued in some formal teaching situations. Thus, the objective of this research was to identify primal knowledge at risk of extinction held by ancient people, residents of Vila de Porto Grande, municipality of Cametá in the state of Pará, Brazil. The research fits into the qualitative approach, of the bibliographic and exploratory type with field research. The main instrument for the production of data was the conduction of interviews with elderly people in the aforementioned community. The results revealed a range of primeval knowledge that could be explored, including knowledge related to ways of preserving food before the advent of electricity, basic health procedures, protection against domestic pests, among others. Subsequently, through dialogue with consolidated theoretical references, the possibilities of having it transformed into school knowledge were glimpsed.
