Online course in Probability and Statistics: conception, analysis and evaluation

Resumo: This article discusses the instructional material developed for the discipline of Probability and Statistics, offered in blended mode, in the First Semester of 2010, for students of higher education courses in the areas of Administration and Business and Sciences and Technology. For that was combined elements of the educational prototype developed by Cabral et al. (2009) an approach to learning styles of Alonso et al. (1994), aspects of communication and interaction in virtual environments presented by Araujo Jr. et al. (2010) and motivational strategies (GUIMARÃES, 2004). After development of the material and its use, an evaluation was made from a qualitative approach based on analysis of reports and records of participating students, as well as the messages exchanged between students and tutor. The results indicated that a high percentage of approximately 71% of students, who carried out the evaluation activities of the discipline, performance was above 60% accuracy. This may indicate that the implementation of the proposed model is a relevant strategy for subjective areas.

This may indicate that the implementation of the proposed model is a relevant strategy for subjective areas.O presente artigo apresenta o material instrucional desenvolvido para a disciplina de Probabilidade e Estatística, oferecida na modalidade semipresencial, no 1º semestre de 2010, para estudantes dos cursos superiores das áreas de Administração e Negócios e de Ciências Exatas e Tecnologia. Para isso foram combinados elementos do protótipo pedagógico desenvolvido por Cabral et al. (2009) a uma abordagem de estilos de aprendizagem de Alonso et al. (1994), aspectos de comunicação e interação em ambientes virtuais apresentados por Araujo Jr. et al. (2010) e estratégias motivacionais (GUIMARÃES, 2004).  Após a confecção do material e sua utilização, foi feita uma avaliação a partir de uma abordagem qualitativa pautada na análise dos boletins e das notas dos estudantes participantes, bem como das mensagens trocadas entre os estudantes e a tutora. A análise dos resultados indicou que um percentual elevado, da ordem de 71%, dos estudantes que realizaram as atividades de avaliação da disciplina, apresentou um desempenho superior a 60% de acertos.
