Medicinal plants: an experience with students of the initial years of Fundamental Education

Resumo: The teaching of Science in Elementary Education allows the learning of basic concepts, enabling the development of skills, research and development, ensuring its insertion in scientific research. However, this teaching in the initial years is decontextualized, because it uses a language that is far from the reality of the students, generating disinterest. It is necessary to establish a dialogue between popular and scientific knowledge. The thematic "Medicinal Plants" is a way to promote learning, recognizing the necessity to value traditional/popular practices. In this text, we report an experience with a goal of promoting meaningful learning about medicinal plants, through different practical activities, seeking to foster dialogue between scientific knowledge and  as student’s experiences and construction of new knowledge. The proposal was develop with 25 students from the 5th year of elementary school, with a band and a school from nine to eleven years old, from a municipal public school in a city in the interior of São Paulo, and their analysis shows that the results are positive.

Entretanto, esse ensino nos anos iniciais é descontextualizado, pois utiliza uma linguagem distante da realidade dos alunos, gerando desinteresse. É preciso estabelecer o diálogo entre os saberes populares e científicos. A temática “Plantas Medicinais” mostra-se uma forma de favorecer a aprendizagem, sendo reconhecida a necessidade da valorização das práticas tradicionais/populares. Neste texto, relatamos uma experiência que teve por objetivo elaborar e desenvolver uma proposta de ensino com o objetivo de promover a aprendizagem significativa sobre Plantas medicinais, por meio de atividades práticas diversas, buscando-se favorecer o diálogo entre os saberes científicos e as experiências dos alunos e a construção de novos conhecimentos.
