Conservation units and geoparks in the context of Environmental Education

Resumo: | Geoparks are defined areas, created with the purpose of preserving the natural heritage - geological, archaeological, biological - of a region. The main difference between geoparks and other conservation units in Brazil is the integration of the community with the protected area, providing their social and economic development through the exploration of geotourism and environmental education. This work aims to discuss the difference between the conservation units provided for the SNUC and the geoparks, in the concept established by UNESCO, and their use as a tool for the dissemination of environmental education. |

A principal diferença entre os geoparques e outras unidades de conservação no Brasil é a integração da comunidade com a área protegida, propiciando seu desenvolvimento social e econômico a partir da exploração do geoturismo e da educação ambiental.
