Genetics in the classroom context: difficulties and challenges in a public school of Floriano-PI

Resumo: Genetics can become a motivating area if interactively worked in the classroom. The aim of this article was to identify the main difficulties faced by 3rd grade students of the ENOCS school in the municipality of Floriano / PI, in the content of Genetics, as well as the challenges faced by the professor of Biology. The methodological course was guided based on a qualitative-quantitative research with a descriptive approach. As a data collection instrument, a questionnaire with open and closed questions was applied to 26 (twenty-six) students and a questionnaire with open questions applied with the Biology teacher. It was found that 64% of the students presented difficulties with the scientific terms of Genetics, as well as applying them. In addition, the professor of the discipline of Biology corroborates in the sense that a solid foundation in the Elementary School has not been built on essential contents to understand Mendelian Genetics.Therefore, there is a need to include new teaching methodologies to make the Genetics class more interesting and consistent with the reality experienced by students and the promotion of activities that favor learning in Genetics.

Por isso, o presente artigo teve como objetivo identificar as principais dificuldades enfrentadas pelos alunos da 3ª série do Ensino Médio da escola ENOCS no município de Floriano/PI, no conteúdo de Genética, bem como os desafios enfrentados pelo professor da disciplina de Biologia. O percurso metodológico, foi norteado tendo como base uma pesquisa de natureza quali-quantitativa com enfoque descritivo. Como instrumento de coleta de dados utilizou-se um questionário com questões abertas e fechadas aplicado à 26 (vinte e seis) alunos e um questionário com perguntas abertas aplicado com o professor de Biologia. Constatou-se que, 64% dos alunos apresentaram dificuldades com os termos científicos de Genética, bem como em aplicá-los. Além disso, o professor da disciplina de Biologia corrobora no sentido de não ter sido construído uma base sólida no Ensino Fundamental sobre conteúdos essenciais para compreenderem a Genética Mendeliana.
