Resumo: Merity Regional School - which was launched in Duquede Caxias County, Baixada Fluminense, by educator,feminist and political activist Armanda Álvaro Alberto –has celebrated its hundredth anniversary surroundedby tributes. Based on the understanding thatcelebrating also means reflecting about the past,questioning the present and planning the future, theaim of the present study is to analyze anniversarycelebrations in Merity Regional School, which wererecorded in photographs, speeches and oraltestimonials, although without losing sight of othercelebrations that implied gathering, recalling andteaching. Finally, it addresses the meaning ofcelebrating hundredth anniversaries.
