Resumo: This article analyzes the traditional theatrical spaces at the expense of the introduction of cinematographic exhibitions introduction in São João del-Rei in the first half of the twentieth century. The buildings taken as samples for study are: Teatro Municipal, which started its activities in 1893, and the theater of the Clube Teatral Artur Azevedo, inaugurated in 1951. To carry out this analysis, architectural projects, photographs, newspapers and other documents were used in order to promote an understanding about the material creative processes of the discussed buildings, as well their transformations.

Ejemplos de este estudio son el Teatro Municipal, que comenzó a funcionar en 1893, y el Teatro Arthur Azevedo, que fue inaugurado en 1951. Para este análisis se utilizaron proyectos arquitectónicos, fotografías, revistas y otros documentos con el fin de promover la comprensión de los procesos creativos materiales de los edificios tratados y sus transformaciones. Este artigo analisa as construções e transformações de tradicionais espaços teatrais por conta da introdução das exibições cinematográficas na cidade de São João del-Rei – MG, na primeira metade do século XX. Os edifícios tomados como amostras deste estudo são o Teatro Municipal, que iniciou suas atividades em 1893, e o teatro do Clube Teatral Artur Azevedo, inaugurado em 1951. Para a realização da presente análise, foram utilizados projetos arquitetônicos, fotografias, jornais e outros documentos de modo a promover um entendimento sobre os processos criativos materiais dos edifícios abordados, bem como de suas transformações.
